Final Week Of Editing

FILMING

This week I did the film the final parts for my adverts. I had originally planned to re film small parts for two different adverts, however I realised that I didn't have enough time as I still had a lot of editing to do. I re filmed for my second advert, the part where the protagonist is drinking Waikiki. As I have mentioned in a previous post, I made the decision to change the advert slightly, so that rather than the protagonist imagining she's at a party, she is actually transported to a party.
I filmed this with the same actor and in the same location, however I just slightly changed some of the shots to adapt to the new storyline. I believe that this filming was successful as I was prepared and knew everything that I needed to do, I checked the camera and tripod to see if they worked and already knew the shots that I needed so the filming didn't take long.

I have now added this footage to my main advert, replacing the previous footage which how now been changed. Seeing all of this advert together has made me realise that I definitely made the right decision to change the narrative slightly, and believe that this change will make my adverts more successful as they now link together much better in terms of the storyline.

EDITING

I found editing this advert fairly easy as I have significantly developed my editing skills. As I had already created this advert and only had to replace some footage, I found the editing fairly easy as it just meant importing the clips, watching them, then cutting them down or using the razor to seperate them in to two different clips.

For my two main adverts I decided to have the same ending, with a title at the end. I decided I would have the 'Waikiki' logo in large font in the centre of the screen, with my slogan in a smaller font written underneath. As I hadn't created titles in Premiere Pro before I found this daunting as I was only used to basic editing; however, once I had learned how to create titles, editing them and then placing them in to the correct place was very easy. Whilst the titles are on screen I have decided to use a voice over, which will be the same for both adverts. This non diagetic sound will say: 'Waikiki. Try a taste of sunshine. Over 18's only, drink responsibly.' Having a voiceover, stating exactly what is on screen for the final shot is very common in adverts and reading, and listening to the same thing at the same time helps audiences remember. As the name and the slogan are stated, it's important that audiences remember these two things, which is why I have decided to use these titles at the end. I decided to keep the same colour font, white, for my logo as this is the colour it is on the bottle, furthermore I have decided to have a black background, creating a contrast with the logo and slogan. Therefore, this effect will attract audiences to the logo as it stands out in bright, bold writing from the dull, dark background.

When it came to editing my sponsorship adverts, I decided to use titles in these as well. However, rather than having the titles appear on a black screen, I have layered them so that they are in front of my footage. I had previously decided that 'Waikiki' would sponsor 'Geordie Shore', therefore I decided to incorporate the Geordie Shore logo within my titles. I decided that the most suitable time for the titles to appear was when the music and lights begin flashing, as this is also when my voice over begins. Editing these titles was fairly simple as I used to knowledge I had previously learned from my main adverts in order to create these titles. As with my other adverts, I used the logo in white, saying 'Waikiki sponsors' all in the same font, then with the Geordie Shore logo underneath. I believe that the white font was most appropriate to use in this case as in all of my other adverts I have used this colour, furthermore it was the colour which stood out most against the background. Although it's coming to the end of the post production stages, I am pleased that I'm still able to learn new skills in regards to didital technologies such as Adobe Premiere Pro. I believe that the development of my skills means that my adverts are becoming much more realistic and successful as I continue developing my skills.

EDITING RADIO ADVERT

Out of all of my adverts I found my radio advert to be the least challenging and problematic. As the advert only consisted of sound it meant that I didn't have to worry about issues such as continuity or problems with the camera moving. When I began editing I still wasn't very familiar with Adobe Preimere Pro, however from my animatics I knew simple skills required for creating my radio advert such as importing clips. I began by importing all of the sound I had recorded, then listening to each clip to see which would be suitable. I then trimmed some of my clips down, cutting down the beginning or the end as there were often sounds which I hadn't heard whilst I was recording and some of the sound was delayed. Once I had chosen which footage to use I placed each piece in order to create the conversation; I found this very simple as it meant placing each small clip in chronological order. Once I had finished I added in some diagetic sounds such as the sound of somebody sipping a drink; I then added the non diagetic sound of the voice over, which is spoken at the end. Overall, although I didn't experience  any problems whilst editing, I don't believe that I have developed my skills through editing this advert as it only required basic skills which I had previously learned.
